Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Wireless FreeNet?

A computer network, that uses standards-based ('WiFi') wireless networking equipment, to join two or more locations without charge.

Typically, FreeNets are setup by volunteers or hobbyists, using roof-top antennas and readily available electronics (radios). FreeNets primarily use TCP/IP networking - making them Internet-like networks. A FreeNet can exist in isolation (servicing a small number of houses/locations), but can also be joined together to make a community-wide Intranet.
