Netstumbler Kits
| Newbies.
The first thing we all want to do when starting in the WiFi
hobby is to look around for other networks. This goes by a many names, such
as: Stumbling, WarDriving, and even WarFlying for those with a plane. The
software of choice for this is the freeware
Netstumbler. Any of
the NS Kits (below) are ideal for this. Of course, the PCMCIA card makes an
excellent 'client' card for a laptop when not in use for stumbling, and the
antenna can be used later as part of a future wireless network.
|
| Antenna Pointing.
For high gain directional antennas, where you can't simply
point by eye, it is best to use
Netstumbler to
fine-tune the antenna pointing to get the maximum signal. One of the NP Kits
(below) will be what you need. Of course, the PCMCIA card makes an excellent
'client' card for a laptop when not in use for pointing. |
