The Kits
To make life easier for mates, I have put together some standard
kits that have the following common specifications:
| All parts included to make half of a working
Me 'n me Mate link, except the antenna pole on which the
provided antenna is to be mounted. You need two kits to make a complete link. |
| 3m of low loss antenna cable included. This means the
Access Point (AP) must be mounted in a dry environment, within 3m of the
antenna. You can order extra cable if needed. |
| 15m of Power Over Ethernet (POE) CAT5 cable included,
meaning the AP must be located within 15m of the nearest LAN and power points.
POE means the AP power travels along the unused wires in the CAT5 cable; you do not need a power point in the roof. |
| The only difference between kits is the antenna type, and
distance specification. |
| Distance Specs assume CLEAR Line Of Sight (LOS). That means
no trees, buildings, etc in the way. |
Point-to-Point, or 'Client' (Directional) kits
These kits come with directional antennas. A pair of these
kits make a point-to-point link. Alternatively, these kits can be used as
'clients' of a central Access Point kit (below).

Grammar Lesson
I can't believe the number of times I receive an email that
starts: "Me and me Mate want to put up a wireless link". I shouldn't
complain about this abuse of English grammar, as our language is supposed to be
evolving. Maybe my adoption of that as a title is a case of: If you can't
beat 'em, join 'em.
